REVIEW BY JAN & GLEN

Our experience of staying with Sangdup and his family at Lingthem Lyang Homestay was exquisite. The family couldn't have been more helpful. The warmth of their hospitality made us feel very welcome and well cared for.

All the logistics ran smoothly. Sangdup takes care of permits to enter Dzongu and can arrange transport. Communication by email and phone was very efficient.

The homestay consists of three buildings around a sunny courtyard. One houses the simple, wood-lined bedrooms that are clean and comfortable. Close by are hot showers and Asian and  Western  style toilets, each in a separate cubicle. The third building contains the kitchen, dining area and fire hearth. Unless there are power interruptions, there is electricity available in the room 24/7.

The views from the homestay itself are stunning; paddy fields, vegetable gardens, natural forest and mountains, including the mighty Mt. Kanchenjunga.

During our week's stay we enjoyed walking in the forest and about the villages, meeting people and observing day-to-day life, including the preparation of traditional food. We listened to beautiful songs and felt privileged to visit local monasteries.

The country can be steep but it's also possible to choose walks of different grades. Sangdup and family members are excellent guides, keen to share their culture and knowledge. We had many interesting conversations.

We enjoyed delicious meals made from fresh organic food grown in local gardens and collected from the forest.

We have lovely memories of our time at Lingthem. We felt refreshed but also inspired. There are so many things to admire about the Lepcha people, their sustainable living, respect for nature, honesty, good humour and warm hearths.

For people wanting to experience the traditional life of the Lepcha people and simple pleasures free from the trappings of city living, Lingthem Homestay is perfect.
